For my birthday this year on August 23rd (8/23), I'm looking to raise $823 for charity.

This year, I'm highlighting the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF), an absolutely incredible organization which supplies bed nets to protect people from malaria.
Malaria kills about 400,000 people each year and causes illness in 200 million people, mostly children under 5 years old in sub-Saharan Africa. And it's completely preventable!

Why AMF?
- Consistently named a top-rated charity by expert charity evaluators (e.g., GiveWell).
- Incredible track record of protecting over 500 million people from malaria over the past 20 years.
- Each anti-malarial net costs merely $2, protecting an average of 2 people from malaria for 3-4 years.
- 100% of donations go towards anti-malarial nets and the nets are distributed right away (because there remains a large funding gap).
- Remarkable transparency: AMF lists every single donation and where/when the nets are distributed.
In short: Malaria is terrible, easily preventable, and underfunded. It's shockingly easy to save and improve many lives -- let's do our part!

Against Malaria Foundation
The Against Malaria Foundation provides funding for long-lasting insecticide-treated net (LLIN) distributions (for protection against malaria) in developing countries. Insecticide-treated nets prevent malaria and are inexpensive — about $5 per net. There is strong evidence that distributing LLINs reduces child mortality and malaria cases.
