Can I donate to any charity?

On our homepage, you can search for any nonprofit on the United States' IRS list of tax-exempt nonprofits under Section 501(c)(3), thanks to our donation disbursement partners Every.org.

If you can’t find a nonprofit, please first try typing in the nonprofit’s EIN (Employer Identification Number). To find their EIN, search here — change the response under "Search By" to "Organization Name", then type the nonprofit's name under "Search Term". If you're still having trouble, please email us at info@givingmultiplier.org.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes, donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. to the fullest extent allowed by law. After donating, you will receive an email with a receipt from our partner Every.org. While donations are currently only tax-deductible in the U.S., you can donate from anywhere in the world.

The email confirmation from Giving Multiplier is NOT a tax receipt. Instead, please make sure to use the email you receive from Every.org. For tax purposes, the nonprofit is Every.org (rather than the specific charities to which you donated).

Do you charge fees?

No, we do not charge fees. This means 100% of your donation will go to charity (minus standard transaction costs for some payment methods). Donations via bank, stock, and DAFs do not have transaction costs (learn more).

Giving Multiplier's operations are funded separately by previous grants from EA Funds, Founders Pledge, and gifts from individual donors.

Can I donate from outside of the United States?

Yes, you can donate from anywhere in the world. However, you can only donate to nonprofits that are legally recognized in the U.S. (including international charities with a U.S. branch), as well as to our matching funds.

Your donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by U.S. law, but not yet in other countries. Outside of Giving Multiplier, you can make tax-deductible donations to many of our super-effective charities in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and several other countries.

How do you identify your super-effective charities?

Because we are not charity evaluators, we rely on the expert research of GiveWell, Animal Charity Evaluators, and Founders Pledge. Our selected recommended charities cover three broad areas: 1) global health and poverty alleviation, 2) animal welfare, and 3) global catastrophic risk reduction.

We do not claim that our selected recommended charities are the only highly effective charities in the world. The selection of recommended charities is our attempt to present you with a small portfolio of charities that are considered highly effective in terms of the amount of good achieved with additional funding based on the best available evidence. Can I set up monthly recurring donations?

Yes. When making a donation on the homepage, simply select “Monthly” to set up a recurring monthly donation.

Please note that the matching rate applied to each donation may vary based on the matching rates at the time. If matching funds are not available for a future donation, your donation will be processed without matching.

You can also make a monthly donation to our matching fund itself, which encourages others to donate.

How do I manage my recurring donation?

To change the charities your recurring donations support, log in to your Giving Multiplier donor portal.

To update the amount, pause, or cancel your recurring donation, log in to our donation partner at Every.org by using the same email address you use with Giving Multiplier.

How do my donations have an increased impact?

Donating with Giving Multiplier increases your impact by introducing you to super-effective charities recommended by experts. You also generate indirect impact by taking part in our "supply-and-demand cycle" that encourages others to donate effectively. Because matching funds are pre-paid, your impact may be different than what you first expect. Learn more

What if I already donate to one of your super-effective charities?

The goal of Giving Multiplier is to encourage new donors to give more to super-effective charities — donors who wouldn't have otherwise supported our super-effective charities. If you are already committed to highly effective giving, you can have even more impact by supporting our matching fund.

Where do the matching funds come from?

Matching funds are provided entirely by individual donors. Thousands of generous donors have donated to our matching fund, which encourages others to use Giving Multiplier to increase their charitable impact.

What happens to my donation if I donate into the matching system?

If you donate to our matching fund, 100% of your donation ultimately goes to charity. Your contribution will be used to add matching funds to others' donations, directing more funds to super-effective charities.

Matching funds unused after 12 months are donated directly to super-effective charities (though to date, matching funds have always been used sooner than 12 months).

Why do the matching rates change when I shift my donation allocation between the two charities?

To encourage donations to our super-effective charities, matching rates increase when you give a greater proportion of your donation to the super-effective (vs. favorite) charity. Our matching rates range has been as low as 3% to 30% and as high as 9% to 90%. Please check the homepage for our current matching rates.

How are donations processed and is it secure?

Donations via Giving Multiplier are processed by our trusted partner Every.org, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that allows donors to easily give to multiple charities. Every.org issues a receipt upon donating and forwards donations to charities at least once per month (except for rare cases). Your connection to both Giving Multiplier and Every.org is secure and encrypted.

Do you share my information with anyone?

No. We will never share your information unless you give us explicit permission. The only party that will receive information from us is our trusted partner Every.org. They will process your donation and will not share your information with anyone else without your explicit permission.

Can I donate through a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

Yes. To donate through a DAF, please go to the homepage and initiate a donation. Once you're redirected to Every.org for payment, please select the "DAF" payment method option on the lefthand side and follow the remaining steps. Can I donate via check, wire, or ACH transfer?

Donations via check are only accepted for donations above $5,000 (read more). To donate via wire or ACH transfer, please see Every.org's instructions.
